Baptist Health System patients are benefiting from a Medicare demonstration program called ACE that saves money and increases the quality of care. ACE stands for "acute care episode."
Doctors work with hospitals to streamline billing and order in bulk, saving money, time and paperwork. It's a program that has been highly successful for joint replacement patients.
"We've grown into a system that's recognized around the country that is now the model for what Medicare is going to do for hip and knee replacement," explained orthopedic surgeon Dr. David Fox. "It's taken us all the way from talking at different AMA conventions and all the way to the White House sharing what we've done here in San Antonio, Texas."
